What exactly makes a great designer?

Let's chat for a hot second about what makes a great designer. This word can be thrown around a lot in many different industries, and anyone can call themselves a designer, but what exactly makes a GREAT designer?

The root word design is a plan or drawing produced to show the look and function or workings of a building, garment, or another object before it is built or made. It also can be an arrangement of lines or shapes created to form a pattern or decoration.

People who design can simply build something understanding perhaps the mechanics, how the arrangement of those lines, shapes, and patterns look best, but what about those designers who create something that

just WOWS the observer or listener?

What do designers do?

Designers do not just come from one line of work. Designers can be found in a variety of different work genres. They may be interior and exterior designers, landscapers, or florists; perhaps they are chefs or woodworkers. There are lighting, set, sound, and many more designers behind the scenes in the performing arts; web designers, and of course, visual and performance artists can also be designers. We’re sure you can think of other areas that people design as well.

**What makes a great design?**

With every great, good or bad design, there’s an energy that the whole work takes on. When we say the word “energy,” we mean that there’s an essence, a feeling that you can feel, or maybe you don’t have an opinion,

and it bores you. This has energy as well.

So, what makes a great design? There’s a certain energy, beauty, and a clear stylistic choice in a great design. The best designers merge their education, experience, and heart. These elements are pulled by their passion for the project to create a design that they have been inspired to do solo or co-create with others.

And, while there may be some points that they want to throw in the towel, somehow, they overcome the hurdle. Their best projects are not necessarily the ones in that everything went smoothly, but they use the stumbling blocks to their advantage.
