Wellbeing

Dear StyleLove.Co,

How can I make my water taste better, or can I drink other things besides water to hydrate during the day? Thanks, Sarah B.

Hey Sarah,

We know that water can be boring, but before you live on tea, coffee, soda, or something similar, let's look at the true benefits of water, plus some things that might help bring the party to your water intake.

First, here's a refresher on the benefits of water:

So, now that you've had a refresher on the benefits of water, let's answer the real question. Can you drink other liquids and still reap the benefits of water? The answer is maybe, but with all of the added ingredients like sugar, sugar substitutes, carbonation, caffeine to name a few, it's just not a slam dunk yes, like drinking that 64oz/ 1/2 your body weight of pure beautiful H20. But, with that said, here are some ways to help improve the taste of your water that may brighten your day.

Homemade infused water

Add lemon slices, orange slices, basil or cucumber slices for true natural flavor without any added sugar or calories. PS if you choose to add the whole peel to your drink, make sure you've purchased organic produce that doesn't have pesticides or herbicides on the rind.

Add Himalayan sea salt to your water

When you add sea salt it can balance your potassium and sodium levels. Himalayan sea salt specifically has 84 trace minerals and elements that make it incredibly nourishing for your body. Pink salt has numerous benefits from helping the body detoxify to boosting energy to improving digestion and promoting healthy hair, skin, and nails. Many will feel an immediate difference in their energy level and overall wellbeing. When dissolved in water, potassium and sodium turn into ions which are essential for the good functioning of neurological health, cardiovascular system, cellular and muscular health. Also, you lose salt when you sweat, and adding just a pinch to your water can help with your hydration.

Try different kinds of water

You can try electrolyte-infused spring water, PH balanced water, etc. You'd be surprised at the difference in taste. Shop around and become a water connoisseur. #worthit Maybe if you develop your palette you can one day become a water sommelier. (Whoever thought that would be a job) We have seen water tastings at local farmer's markets, perhaps your town has them too?
